Commissioner Miller Elected as Treasurer for Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture (6/23/2015)

AUSTIN – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has been elected to the position of treasurer for the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture (SASDA). Commissioner Miller joined leaders from across the country in Atlanta, Georgia, for the annual SASDA meeting to discuss important issues facing the agriculture industry across the United States.

“I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues to serve in a leadership role for this important organization,” Commissioner Miller said. “We are facing critical issues in agriculture today. I will work hard to protect our farmers and ranchers, as well as the industry as a whole and the people who depend upon it. Agriculture has been my life’s work since I was a kid growing up in De Leon, Texas. I am truly blessed to be where I am today, and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish for agriculture across our nation.”

At the 2015 SASDA meeting, Commissioner Miller and the other agricultural leaders discussed topics ranging from avian influenza to County of Origin Labeling (COOL) to the Environmental Protection Agency. Each year, the home state of the current president hosts the annual conference. Texas is set to host the SASDA convention in 2019.

A branch of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, SASDA works to develop sound public policy and programs to support and grow the American agriculture industry, while also promoting consumer protection and environmental responsibility. SASDA is comprised of the commissioners, secretaries and directors of agriculture from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and the Virgin Islands.
