TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER TO BE SWORN-IN FOR 2ND TERM AT PHARR INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE NEAR MCALLEN TO HIGHLIGHT TEXAS BORDER
Will be joined by Mexican Governor Francisco Javier Cabeza de Vaca and Mexican officials

AUSTIN — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has announced he will be sworn-in for his second term in office this Monday, Jan. 14. The ceremony will take place in Pharr, Texas at the Pharr International Bridge along the Texas-Mexico border.   Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman will conduct the oath of office.  Commissioner Miller will be joined by dignitaries and elected officials, as well as officials from the neighboring Mexican state of Tamaulipas, including Governor Francisco Javier Cabeza de Vaca.  The swearing-in will be streamed on Facebook Live.

Commissioner Miller has traditionally had a strong focus on the Texas border and continues to emphasize the importance of border security. While a Texas House of Representatives member, Commissioner Miller oversaw border security issues and more recently has focused on international agricultural trade across the border. He chose to be sworn-in at the Texas border to highlight the importance of the region to agriculture, trade and national security.

Commissioner Miller and Governor Cabeza de Vaca formed a strong working relationship on agricultural and border related issues. Recently, Commissioner Miller and Governor Cabeza de Vaca held a “friendship summit” on the international bridge in Laredo to highlight the importance of international trade between their two states.

The Pharr International Bridge has evolved into the largest land port for fruits and vegetables in the nation, crossing 60% of all the fresh produce coming from Mexico through Texas land ports of entry, and contributing significantly to the regional, state, national, and international economy.

An eighth-generation Texas farmer and rancher, Sid Miller is the 12th Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). A ten-time world champion rodeo cowboy, he has devoted his life to promoting Texas agriculture, rural communities and the western heritage of Texas.
