Commissioner Sid Miller To Join President Trump For El Paso Border Visit (2/9/2019)

AUSTIN — Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced he has been asked by the White House to join President Donald J. Trump in El Paso for what is expected to be a major event to rally public support for the president’s plan to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico.  Commissioner will meet Air Force One and greet the President in El Paso, traveling in the motorcade to the event.

Dubbed by the president as “Trump’s Man In Texas,” Commissioner Miller was a strong early supporter of the chief executive dating back to the 2016 primary campaign. He formed the Trump Agricultural Advisory Committee, pulling together agricultural influencers from across the nation to advise the candidate. Briefly considered by President Trump for a cabinet position as Secretary of Agriculture, Miller went on to win re-election as Texas Agriculture Commissioner in November 2018.

Because of his commitment to border issues and his friendship with the governor of the neighboring Mexican state of Tamaulipas, Miller was sworn in last month on the Pharr International Bridge with Mexico near McAllen – the first statewide elected official to take the oath of office outside of Austin.

The Texas Legislature established the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) in 1907. The agency's key objectives are to promote production agriculture, consumer protection, economic development and healthy living. The agriculture commissioner oversees the agency and is elected every four years. Sid Miller is the 12th Texas Agriculture Commissioner.
