COMMISSIONER MILLER ANNOUNCES GENEROUS DONATION TO RURAL HOSPITALS (5/12/2020)

AUSTIN – Today, Commissioner Miller announced that a generous donation of $56,000 has been made by Apache Corporation (Houston) to meet the supply needs of six rural hospitals in West Texas.  Funds from this donation will be used to combat COVID-19 in these rural communities. This remarkable donation follows Commissioner Miller’s appearance on CBS 60 Minutes emphasizing the demand for assistance in rural Texas.

“It is no secret that rural hospitals have fallen on hard times,” Commissioner Miller said. “Add COVID-19 in the mix and it is a recipe for disaster. When big companies like Apache Corporation and TORCH step in to provide some relief, it gives these rural hospitals a fighting chance. Thank you really isn’t enough, but its a good place to start.”

TDA’s State Office of Rural Health would like to recognize Carrie Ruiz, Director of Operations, with the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals (TORCH) for working with Apache Corporation to provide these much-needed supplies.

“Thank you, Apache Corporation, TORCH and our rural hospitals for all you do for our rural communities,” Commissioner Miller said. “It is times like these that show how much of a difference can be made by caring corporations whose invest in rural Texas.”

Donations for supplies will go to West Texas rural hospitals that include Yoakum County Hospital, Denver City, TX, Permian Regional Medical Center, Andrews, TX, Crane Memorial Hospital, Crane, TX, Reeves County Hospital District, Pecos, TX, Reagan Memorial Hospital, Big Lake, TX  and Winkler County Memorial Hospital, Winkler, TX.
