Daily Market Summary for March 18th

Slaughter Cattle:  

As of 3:00 PM Monday, trading has been at a standstill in the Southern and Northern Plains. In the Western Cornbelt trading has been inactive on very light demand. Not enough trades for a market trend. Last week in the Southern Plains and Colorado live cash trades moved at 127.00. For the prior week in Nebraska live cash trades move mostly at 127.00, with a few up to 128.00, and dressed cash trades moved at 204.00 on very light test. For the previous week in the Western Cornbelt live cash trades moved from 126.00-128.00 and dressed cash trades ranged from 203.00-206.00.

Alberta Beef Producers Daily Report:

Alberta direct cattle sales last week saw light trade develop with weighted average steer and heifer prices closing the week at 157.75 and 154.00 respectively. Steer prices were 1.00 higher than the previous week while heifer prices traded 2.00 lower. Local and US packer interest was supportive last week.  Looking at the non-fed market butcher cows traded 0.50 higher through commercial auction facilities last week and butcher bull prices strengthened 5.00.

Boxed beef cutout values higher on good demand and light offerings. Select and Choice rib, chuck, round, and loin cuts steady to firm. Beef trimmings mostly slightly higher on moderate to good demand and moderate offerings.
