Daily Market Summary for March 25th

Slaughter Cattle:  

As of 3:00 PM, trading in the Southern and Northern Plains has been at a standstill. In the Western Cornbelt trading has been very inactive with very light demand. Not enough trades for a market trend. Last week in the Southern Plains live cash trades moved at 128.00. For prior week in the Northern Plains live cash trades moved at 129.00 and dressed cash trades, in Nebraska, moved mostly at 208.00 with a few up to 209.00. For the previous week in the Western Cornbelt live cash trades ranged from 129.00-131.00 and dressed cash trades moved at 208.00.

Alberta Beef Producers Daily Report:

Alberta direct cattle sales saw active trade last week with steer prices firming $2.70/cwt higher to average $157.54/cwt. Heifer prices averaged $2.90/cwt higher closing the week at $157.07/cwt. A handful of live trade was reported from $156.00-156.75/cwt. The majority of dressed sales were reported $5-6/cwt higher than the previous week at $265.00-266.00/cwt. delivered.

Boxed beef cutout values steady on moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. Select and Choice rib, round, and loin cuts steady to weak. Choice chuck cuts higher while Select steady. Beef trimmings mostly steady to firm on moderate demand and light offerings.
