King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management - Gus T. Canales Lectureship on Prescribed Burning:

This lectureship is designed to teach the participants the safe use of fire as a range-land and wildlife habitat management tool. It satisfies the education requirement necessary to qualify the participant as a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager in the state of Texas. Learning objectives include applying principles learned in the class in a hands-on prescribed burn, understanding weather factors as they affect prescribed fire, discussing fire behavior, how to control a fire, and more.

Cost: $500 - Covers materials, equipment, refreshments and lunches.

The Upper Llanos Prescribed Burn Association in conjunction with Texas Tech University and the Upper Llanos Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting a Texas Department of Agriculture prescribed burn certification course. Prescribed Burn Lead Instructors, Ray Hinnant and Butch Taylor will be instructing the course at the Texas Tech University Field Station campus in Junction, Texas.

Participation will be limited to 25 applicants. TDA required certification exam may be taken upon completion of the 4 day school.
