Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller Statement Regarding U.S. Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) (10/2/2018)

For Immediate Release:
October 1, 2018

TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER STATEMENT REGARDING U.S. MEXICO-CANADA AGREEMENT (USMCA)

“I am pleased that President Trump has worked with Mexico and Canada to craft a new trade agreement to replace NAFTA. The new U.S. Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is exactly the boost in confidence Texas farmers and ranchers needed as we move towards expanding markets and making sure we are not just getting ‘free’ trade, but ‘fair’ trade with our agreements.”

“As Texas Agriculture Commissioner, President of the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA) and a founding member of the Trump Agriculture Advisory team, I have been involved in the discussions on replacing NAFTA since the very beginning. I have seen firsthand President Trump’s commitment to our farmers and ranchers and I am proud to have helped our President keep his promise to protect the American ag industry.”

“Just like a 30-year old house, NAFTA needed a major overhaul to modernize it and make it livable for our farmers and ranchers. With key achievements in expanded market access, biotechnology and increased transparency, the Trump administration has created an agreement that protects the American agriculture industry and strengthens our position worldwide as an agricultural leader.“

“This is a big win for Texas farmers and ranchers and a great step forward for American agriculture”
