AUSTIN - As childhood obesity becomes an increasingly pressing public health concern, nutrition education will play a vital role in Texas schools. Recognizing this, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) today announced $414,000 has been awarded to 112 school campuses and community organizations through its Nutrition Outreach Program. The program was created to help fund better health and nutrition practices to prevent obesity among Texas children.
BEEVILLE - The Texas Department of Agriculture has awarded $300,000 to the city of Beeville to provide infrastructure upgrades. The award, presented from the Texas Capital Fund, will pay for the development of road, water, sewer, drainage, electrical, gas, cable and telephone improvements in support of a Beeville assisted-living community. The project will create 12 jobs.
AUSTIN - The Texas Department of Agriculture has awarded $100,000 through the Young Farmer Grant Program to 16 young farmers who will create or expand agriculture businesses in Texas to help feed a growing population. The funds, which are being awarded for the second time in 2010, are given to agriculture producers ages 18 to 46.
