COMMISSIONER SID MILLER GETS RID OF PESTICIDES THE TDA WAY
Friday, February 2, 2024, AUSTIN- The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service joined forces on Wednesday, January 31, to host a pesticide waste collection and container recycling event in Robstown, Texas where Commissioner Sid Miller welcomed each attendee. This free public event allowed agriculture producers to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides and pesticide containers.  [More]

COMMISSIONER MILLER ENCOURAGES ELIGIBLE FAMILIES TO APPLY FOR THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE HISTORIC FAMILY LAND HERITAGE PROGRAM
Friday, January 19, 2024, AUSTIN – Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller proudly invites Texas farmers and ranchers to apply for recognition at the Texas Department of Agriculture's (TDA) annual Family Land Heritage Ceremony (FLH). This year marks the 50th anniversary of FLH, a significant milestone for TDA. Since 1974, TDA has hosted a ceremony at the Texas State Capitol to celebrate the families who have passed down their proud Texas legacy from generation to generation, and who continue to inspire Texans with their commitment and endurance. This program pays tribute to families who have kept their land in continuous agricultural production for at least one hundred years. TDA requests that qualified families submit their applications for recognition in the 2024 FLH ceremony by Friday, May 31, 2024.  [More]

COMMISSIONER MILLER PARTNERS WITH USDA TO AWARD $11.5 MILLION TO STRENGTHEN FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN INFRASTRUCTURE
Tuesday, December 19, 2023, AUSTIN – Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) under the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI). Through this agreement, USDA and Texas are working together to offer $11.5 million in competitive grant funding for projects designed to build resilience across the middle of the supply chain. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, “Today, I joined fellow state agriculture leaders from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming to express strong opposition to importing beef from Paraguay. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to allow Paraguayan beef imports threatens our nation’s agriculture industry. We are calling on Secretary Vilsack to pause the implementation of this rule until a more reliable risk assessment can be completed."  [More]
 
COMMISSIONER SID MILLER APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVES TO THE TEXAS FOOD SYSTEM SECURITY AND RESILIENCY PLANNING COUNCIL
Friday, November 17, 2023, Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller selected four agriculture and food system professionals to serve on the Texas Food System Security and Resiliency Planning Council. During the 88th Regular Session, the Texas Legislature passed HB 3323, which established this special council in response to the Texas Food Access Study conducted by the Texas Department of Agriculture and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.  [More]
